Research Interests

Mary Sturgeon teaches courses on Greek and Roman sculpture and Greek painting. Her research interests have focused on sculpture excavated from the site of Corinth and Corinth’s Sanctuary of Poseidon on the Isthmos of Corinth, in Greece. Her recent work at Corinth includes study of its Hellenistic Sculpture and the reconstruction of the sculptures on the theater facade of the Hadrianic period (ca. A.D. 120–130). In 2003, she organized, with students in two classes, an exhibition of ancient Mediterranean art in the Ackland Art Museum. She is now editing a catalogue on the Ackland collection of art from the ancient Mediterranean.
